Target Zero

A new £1 million 'Target Zero' project is looking at five major building types (schools, warehouses, offices, supermarkets and mixed use) and will generate fully-costed solutions demonstrating how to achieve the three highest BREEAM ratings and meet the changes to Part L of the Building Regulations.

History

Having been established in 1936, The British Constructional Steelwork Association Ltd (BCSA), is one of the oldest trade associations in the construction industry. It grew out of the associations formed in the early 1900s, as recognition grew of the commercial benefits of using steel-framed building construction systems, and of the need for co-ordination in matters of common interest.

The early years of this century saw the following developments :

  • 1906 The Bridge & Construction Ironwork Association
  • 1908 The Steelwork Society
  • 1913 The London Constructional Engineers Association
  • 1919 The Midland Structural Association
  • 1933 The Scottish Structural Steel Association
  • 1936 The British Constructional Steelwork Association and The Northern Ireland Steelwork Association
