Target Zero

A new £1 million 'Target Zero' project is looking at five major building types (schools, warehouses, offices, supermarkets and mixed use) and will generate fully-costed solutions demonstrating how to achieve the three highest BREEAM ratings and meet the changes to Part L of the Building Regulations.

Sustainability

Below is an introduction to the topic of Sustainability. You can also search for your specific topic using the Search box at the top of the page or click on any of the following keywords and phrases: Zero carbon – Triple bottom line of social, economic, environmental – Carbon footprint – Speed of erection – Multi-recycling – Steel waste – Lightweight frames – Adaptability – Charter – Whole life – Off-site fabrication – Credentials.

The BCSA is seriously committed to Sustainability, and has in place a Sustainability Charter. Steel has many inherently good credentials for sustainable construction, and by consistently monitoring and measuring benchmarked key performance indicators, we can assess the progress towards sustainable development of the triple bottom line; that is social, economic and environmental priorities.

The Target Zero project will generate costed solutions for structural steel framed construction that achieves highest BREEAM ratings and changes to Part L of the Building Regulations, meeting emissions reduction targets towards zero carbon by 2019.
