The shortlist for the 53rd Structural Steel Design Awards (SSDA), jointly sponsored by BCSA and Trimble Solutions (UK) Ltd, has been announced.
The Awards have again seen a strong number of submissions and the 20 shortlisted projects once again showcase steel’s flexibility and versatility in a number of different and varying applications. The entries this year reflect the wide geographical spread of steel’s appeal for a variety of projects.
The winners will be announced at an evening reception in London on 28 September.
The SSDA 2021 shortlist is:
“Structural steelwork is the original sustainable material with the ability to be recycled and re-used time and time again to deliver structures that meet the low carbon demands of clients and the climate emergency. It is also able to deliver efficient, practical, and flexible spaces that are both beautiful and cost-effective. 2020/21 has been a challenging year with COVID-19, Brexit and supply issues but even with these trials the constructional steelwork sector has remained buoyant and continues to provide high-quality buildings and infrastructure for demanding clients.
The Structural Steel Design Awards were first launched in 1969 and since then the winning projects have continued to demonstrate engineering excellence, innovation, value for money and sustainability in an ever-changing world. I am pleased to say that the range and quality of entries for the 53rd year of the awards are no different and once again the entries submitted are exceptional. We have a very strong shortlist, and I would like to congratulate all of the shortlisted project teams.”
David Moore, Chief Executive Officer, British Constructional Steelwork Association.
“In its 53rd year, Trimble are delighted to continue to be associated with the Structural Steel Design awards and are further enthralled with the level of excellence in the use of this adaptable and sustainable structural material that they display. The past year has challenged the industry and wider society in ways we have not previously experienced. The ability of the industry to continue to deliver projects of this quality in an ever-changing world, leveraging technology for design for manufacture and assembly, is truly inspirational. Good luck to all those shortlisted.”
Richard Fletcher, Regional Business Director, Trimble Buildings.
